Alvinston Optimist Christmas Celebration

Reverse Santa Claus Parade

Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 6:15PM-7:30PM
(Deadline to register: Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 7:00PM)

The Alvinston & Districts Optimist Club is excited to be organizing a family-friendly drive-thru reverse parade once again. The theme this year is “Show Your Spirit of Christmas”. The parade route is 2.3km of two-way traffic and will take about 30 minutes to drive through. It will be mainly concentrated on River, Elgin & Walnut Streets, as well as the arena parking lot where Santa will be on his sleigh giving everyone treats!

A few things to know:

  • Items to bring: letters to Santa, a non perishable food item to stuff the Food Bank trailer at the arena, skates for public skating after the parade
  • Handicapped accessible horse and carriage tours are approximately 15 minutes. First come, first ride. Located at Munro Honey.
  • Hay wagon rides are approximately 15 minutes. First come, first ride. Located at Lambton Meats with entry only off Nauvoo Rd. onto Millpond.

Participating in the parade is a great team-building and volunteer opportunity, and is an amazing way to support and celebrate our community during the holidays. If you are a business or organization that is interested in participating, please register for free using the link below. Some options could be lighting up a piece of machinery and parking it along the route, using blow-up inflatables, parking a trailer decorated with lights, using floodlights on a painted background, etc. Feel free to be creative! We can be a bit flexible and are excited to hear your ideas, but you must register by Saturday, December 4th at 7:00PM in order to be included in the judging.  If you miss the registration deadline you can still participate. Simply show up prior to 5:30PM on the day of the parade and a Parade Marshal will assign you a location along the parade route. Stationary floats/displays can set up from 2:00PM-5:30PM on Saturday, December 11th, and need to pack up at 9:30PM that night. Entries will need to provide their own generator, as there is no power available in the area. If providing power is a barrier for your participation, please let us know and we can help work on a solution.

We want to know what you like the most in our parade this year, so we’ve added a ‘People’s Choice Award’, where we encourage adults and kids alike to vote for your ‘Favourite Parade Entry’. Voting will be open on this website on Saturday, December 11 from 6:30-7:30PM. Please note: voting for the Home Lighting Competition is open from 6:30-9:30PM, which gives everyone more time to view these locations after driving through the parade. The winner will be notified by Monday, December 13 and posted on our website and social media.

First Place $500.00
Second Place $300.00
Third Place $150.00
People’s Choice $100.00
