Optimist Club of Alvinston Districts started in 1978. We have become a large group of 49 members. We support and help the youth of our community in many ways.

We meet every first and third Mondays of the month from September to June @ 6:30pm.

Each meeting starts off with a social gathering at 6:30, then the meeting and a meal. Once the meal is done the fun really begins to take place with activities, a honoured guest presentation, and other club business. Don’t miss out come and see what will happen next. Be a part of a club that does so much for the youth of today and tomorrow.

Word from Our President

Hi!! My name is Marylou Rumleski and I am the newly elected President of the Alvinston & Districts Optimist Club. I want to tell you first why I am an Optimist. I am a retired teacher and I worked at Brooke Central School for 19 years. Every Christmas our local Optimist Club provides a turkey dinner with all the trimmings for the students and staff of Brooke. After eating the students are able to skate for free for an hour. After returning to school totally stuffed and extremely tired from skating, Santa always finds time to come to the school and gives out candy canes and listens to the children’s Christmas lists. The first year I taught at Brooke and saw this amazing experience unfold I knew I wanted to be a part of this. A group of volunteers who give freely of their own time and efforts to improve the lives of our local children. I joined our local club in 1999. Since then I have held several positions with this club – secretary, director and vice-president. I have to admit I was hesitant when I was nominated for this position. Would I be able to maintain the level of achievements of previous presidents?? With the commitment and support of our club members, I hope to lead our club to the best of my ability. I truly enjoy all the activities we provide for the youth of our community. My hope this year is to initiate and bring back more things that involve the kids. If we as a club want the youth of our community to be future Optimsts, I believe we need them to be involved and excited about all the things we do as an Optimist Club. Contact me any time if you have ideas for fundraising or for programs for the kids. Also we are always looking for volunteers at events. And of course new members!! I can truly say I am proud to be an Optimist member and I am looking forward to my year as president!!!
